Our client is a growing Midwest manufacturer of automotive components with manufacturing sites in Indiana, Michigan, adjacent states, the southeastern US, recently into multiple international locations. Organic growth expands by double digits annually and the parent continues to eye strategic acquisitions. Corporate leadership recently initiated worldwide deployment of lean sigma. The role of Controls Engineer is located at a 250-300 person site with recent large capital projects. The Controls Engineer is 80% project based with a focus on upgrading machine control systems (PLC, robotics, CNC) as well as servo drives in a high volume manufacturing environment. The role will provide guidance/support to an existing team of Controls Technicians who routinely resolve day-to-day machine control issues. Successful performance requires superior communication skills for interaction on the production floor and with site leadership professionals. Successful performance can lead to multi-path career ascension into technical leadership or operations management.
Our client requires a Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering although other technical or engineering disciplines will be considered with appropriate machine control experience (PLC’s). Candidates must have at least 2 years experience modifying, programming, installation and start-up of PLC/robotic control systems. Project management success, meeting deadlines and meeting cost/expenditure targets, is required. Prior exposure with lean/lean Sigma methodology is preferred.
